Newport Rowing Club Takes Aim at One Million Meters

timthumbAs people across the country celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the folks at Newport Rowing Club are on a quest to row one million meters to raise money for the club and for the Delaware Kids Fund.  This event is and open house which welcomes anyone of any experience level to come in and contribute to cause.  Assistant coach Alex Urbanik (Sensei at the MVJ Athletics Training Center) is teaming up with head coach John Cohn and head women’s coach Sam McDonald in a non-stop erg relay to see just how many meters the coaches can do throughout the course of the day.  Also of note, Junior athlete Julia Baumel is making an attempt at the world record for rowing a marathon. (26.2 miles)

About Sensei Alex Urbanik

Sensei Alex has been training in the martial arts since January of 2000. He currently has his first degree black belt in Kung Fu and Modern Vee Jitsu. He was also a competitive rower at the University of Delaware as a member of their nationally ranked lightweight program from 2001-2004.
